Troubled voter group not in Iowa

Waterloo (KWWL) -- Voter registration drives by the activist group ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, are now under investigation in several states.

That's after election boards discovered thousands registrations for dead people, Jimmy John's sandwich shops and even the Dallas Cowboys football team. The Obama campaign, which hired ACORN to register people during the primaries, says it's committed to protecting voter integrity and has not hired acorn for the upcoming election.

Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro says acorn is not operating in Iowa.

"Our office has not found any evidence of an active voter registration effort by this organization in our state," said Secretary Mauro. "According to ACORN's national communications director, the organization does not have any presence in Iowa."
