BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) -- Harvest time means early mornings and late nights spent in the field for many Iowa farmers.   Friday a group of neighbors got together to help a friend in need this fall.

Thanks to family, friends and some big hearted neighbors business is being taken care of. Randy Ohrt of rural Reinbeck Is unable to do combine his bean fields this year because just last month his cancer came back and his been at the Mayo clinic in Rochester for treatment.

Between 35 and 40 people showed up at four different locations in rural Black Hawk and Grundy counties to start harvesting the soybeans. The workers started around eleven Friday morning and were hoping to wrap up around seven.

Randy Ohrt has been farming for 36 years.  Both Randy and his wife Cindy are humbled by the showing of support.

"We don't want them to be in this situation, but we hope we're in a situation where we can pay it forward like they are paying it to us today," said Cindy.

To get the job done in such a short period of time, it took 15 combines, and more than a dozen tractors, semis, and grain carts.
