Rockwell Collins will move childcare to former Carmike Cinema building

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Rockwell Collins announced Thursday, that its Child Development Center will expand and move into the former Carmike Cinema building.

The move and expansion is based on the company's desire to attract and retain highly talented employees and the desire to drive and enhance math and science curriculum basics at younger ages. Current plans are to occupy the building by Jan. 3 with the expansion expected to be completed by mid-2009.

After renovations Rockwell Collins will be able to accommodate 448 children, which represents 199 more than are currently enrolled. The new center will also feature a continuing emphasis on early childhood science and math curriculum principles.

"Childcare combined with preschool learning represent critical areas of need for our employees and we're excited to be able to expand our offerings to them," said Ron Kirchenbauer, senior vice president of Human Resources for Rockwell Collins. "Our goal is to create a state-of-the-art child development center where we can nurture an interest in science, math and technology that will last a lifetime."
