Cedar Rapids crews working on 'back-in' angled parking

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (KWWL) - Cedar Rapids Public Works Maintenance Crews are creating "back-in" angled parking.  Crews are working on 1st St SE from 1st Ave E to 7th Ave SE and will complete the 2nd Avenue Bridge from 9:00 p.m. Thursday, October 09, 2008 until 5:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2008.

"Back-in" angled parking is very similar to parallel parking.  To use a "back-in" angled space follow these three steps:

Use the appropriate turn signal to indicate your intention to park

Pull past the parking stall and stop

Back up into the parking stall with caution

According to the city, when it's time to leave, simply look to your left to check for oncoming cars or bicycles, then pull forward into the driving lane when a safe gap in traffic exists.

Parking your vehicle front end in a "back-in" angled space is a traffic violation.  The front end of your vehicle should be facing towards the flow of traffic.
