JONES COUNTY (KWWL) -- James Bentley was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison.

James Bentley molested 10-year-old Jetseta Gage, who was later kidnapped and killed by James' brother Roger.

A jury found him guilty of second-degree sexual abuse in August.

Thursday, Gage's family took the stand to explain the impact of the abuse. Gage's mother and grandmother described the girl as tormented, saying she feared for her life, but at the same time, wanted to die.

The family says they will never be able to escape the abuse, even with Gage gone and the trial over.

"We must live in this hideous aftermath that has sentenced us for life," Gage's great-aunt Jenny Slight said. "We're haunted in our sleep and our quiet times. Images fill our minds and we see in our minds what James did to Jetseta and it is so emotionally draining."

The prosecution asked for the sentence to be served in addition to Bentley's current 100 year sentence on federal charges of child pornography and sexual exploitation. The defense said the 25 years should be served concurrently with the sentence.

In the end, the Jones County judge sided with the prosecution saying rehabilitation was not likely and that Bentley showed no remorse.

This sentence comes down about a month before he goes on trial for the same charge in another county.

The trial was moved to Clarke County because of a pre-trial publicity.

Thursday's sentencing involves charges in Benton County. James Bentley also faces the same sexual abuse charges in Linn County.

His trial on the Linn County charges is set for next month.
