Iowa teacher suspended over beer drinking incident

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The state has suspended the license of a Latimer teacher who let students drink beer at his home.

State education officials say that Randall Davenport was a middle school special education teacher with the CAL school district when he didn't stop two students from drinking beer at his home in July 2007. Davenport denies giving the beer to the students but pleaded guilty earlier this year to supplying alcohol to a minor. He was fined $500.

He quit his job in October 2007.

The Iowa Board of Educational Examiners suspended his license last week for three years. The board also required Davenport to undergo a psychological evaluation.
