UPDATE: Details released on fatal I-80 crash

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- A car crash on Interstate 80 Tuesday killed one person and injured two others as traffic backed up for more than a mile.

The crash happened at 1:30 pm Tuesday at mile marker 229 near the Iowa-Johnson County line. The Iowa State Patrol says 66 year-old Russell Willard of Cedar Rapids died when the car he was driving crossed the median and slammed head-on into an oncoming van. Willard's wife, Marilyn Willard was hurt in the crash, as was the driver of the van, 63 year-old Mary Lee Moore of Lees Summit, Missouri. No word on their condition. Police aren't sure what caused willard to cross the median.

The crash backed up traffic for a mile. That traffic slow down caused another accident that sent at least one person to the hospital. Police have not released the details of that crash yet.
