CONDITION RELEASED: Pilot identified in Iowa City plane crash

IOWA CITY (KWWL)-- Police have released the names of the pilot injured in a plane crash Monday night.  64-year-old James Norbert Meade crash landed on a quiet Iowa City street. Meade is a flight instructor for Jet Air at the Iowa City airport.

According to a hospital spokesperson from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Meade is in serious condition.

The plane crashed just yards from the Iowa City airport on Edingale Drive.

Meade was the only one on board and was taken to the hospital.

Shortly after 8:00, the pilot of the single engine cessna tried to land at the Iowa City Airport. But he clipped some trees and crashed just a few thousand feet from the runway.

Meade was making his approach to the runway when he appeared to clip a tree in a residential neighborhood just northwest of the airport.   The airport is currently renovating the primary runway which runs east-west.   The secondary runway has been the only one open since July.   Its approach requires pilots to come in right over the neighborhood where meade crashed.
