Free Iowa City Lodging for Cancer Patients

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- A new Iowa City Lodge allows for easy access to medical facilities for cancer patients.

The Russell and Ann Gerdin American Cancer Society Hope Lodge provides free, non-medical lodging for cancer patients and their families. The Lodge is located near Carver-Hawkeye Arena and the Ronald McDonald House and provides convenient access to The University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at UI Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City VA Medical Center, and Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Any cancer patient over 18 who is receiving outpatient care in Iowa City is welcomed to stay in one of the Hope Lodge's 28 rooms. The rooms are available on a first come first serve basis.

The Lodge is owned and operated by the American Cancer Society. Cancer survivor and Chief Executive Officer of Heartland Express, Inc. donated $4 million toward the construction of the lodge.
