Congressional delegation hears about flood woes

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Members of Iowa's congressional delegation took a tour through downtown Cedar Rapids and heard business owner complaints about the cost of rebuilding.

Vic Kuper, owner of the restaurant Blend, says the cost to rebuild, plus his previous costs, are like a "double mortgage." Record flooding in June left more than 4 feet of water in his business.

He and others spoke Monday with U.S. Sens. Charles Grassley and Tom Harkin and Rep. Dave Loebsack.

Harkin says Iowa is first in line for the first third of $6.5 billion in federal disaster aid scheduled for disbursement in December.

Grassley says it's still impossible to put a number on how much total money is headed to Iowa in disaster aid and recovery funds.
