DNR investigates fish kill in southeast Iowa

NEW LONDON, Iowa (AP) - State environmental officials are investigating a fish kill near New London in southeast Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the fish kill is believed to have been caused when a hose ruptured as a dairy operation owned by Dalarna Farms was pumping manure. The incident was reported late Saturday.

Officials say the manure flowed into a ditch and then an unnamed tributary before reaching South Big Creek.

Investigators will do an official assessment of the dead fish on Monday. They expect the total number of dead fish to reach into the thousands.
