Culver announces new Board of Regents member

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver is appointing an Iowa State junior to a student seat on the Board of Regents.

Culver announced the appointment on Friday of Greta Johnson, a Le Mars native majoring in political science.

Johnson has previously served as a page in the Iowa Legislature and worked as an intern in the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics at Iowa State.

Johnson's term will begin immediately. Student terms on the Board of Regents expire one year from graduation, unless they re-enroll in a state university, and are subject to confirmation by the Iowa Senate.

Johnson will be 1 of 9 members of the board, which governs the Iowa's three public universities, the Iowa School for the Deaf, and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School.
