Iowa City park works on flood-damaged fields, play areas

IOWA CITY (KWWL)-- One park in Iowa City is a prime example of the high cost of flood recovery.

The price tag to fix flood damage at City Park in Iowa City $350,000

Crews need to remove sand and silt from the park and repair the riverside theatre, children's play area and the baseball fields.

"[Of] Course the largest area of damage is just the landscape itself -- we lost tremendous amount of grass throughout the whole area because it was covered up with water," said Terry Robinson, Iowa City Parks Superintendent.

Robinson hopes the park's repairs will be finished by this spring.
