NEWS RELEASE (KWWL)
WASHINGTON D.C. - Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced today that the Iowa Department of Public Health has been received a $1,061,432 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to fund Family Planning Services. Harkin is the Chairman of the Senate panel that funds HHS initiatives.
"Family planning is an absolute necessity in this day and age. It is not just a personal need, it's a service to our communities, and with this funding, more Iowans will have access to family planning centers," said Harkin.
The Office of Family Planning is part of the Department of Public Health and currently serves 45 of Iowa's 99 counties. The services they offer include pregnancy tests, infertility exams, cancer screening, birth control exams and supplies, sexual health education, and education on how to plan a healthy pregnancy.
