Regina Remains Perfect; Handles Tipton 27-7

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Iowa City Regina took one step closer Friday night to a potential undefeated matchup with defending state champion Solon which ultimately could decide the district championship.

A week after a dramatic win on a last second field goal against Wilton, the Regals were able to handle Tipton 27-7 and improve to 6-0 on the year.

Two big pass plays set up two first half touchdowns for Regina.

On their first series, quarterback Jack Verducci scrambled and hit Marcus Kloos on a shovel pass for a 31 yard gain.  J.D. Hunter capped off the drive with a 15 yard bolt to the endzone to give Regina a 7-0 lead.

With the second quarter winding down, Verducci found receiver Kevin Arnold over the middle who made a couple defenders miss before finally being taken down at the Tipton 8 yard line.  The next play, Kloos scored on a run up the middle giving Regina a 14-0 lead at the half.

Regina added a late 56 yard touchdown run from Brent Callaghan in the fourth quarter.  They'll look to remain unbeaten next week at West Branch.
