Breast Cancer Awareness Month - KWWL - Eastern Iowa Breaking News, Weather, Closings

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Here are some events in eastern Iowa to raise awarness about breast cancer:

Cedar Falls

Beyond Pink will have a 5K walk/run in downtown Cedar Falls to raise money for breast cancer awareness. The walk/run begins at 8 a.m. at the Cedar Falls Public Library.  The race costs $25 to enter.

"The Breast of Friends" cancer survivors support group is hosting the first annual Did I save your Life? Breast Cancer Prevention Walk on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 1 to 4 pm starting at St Peter Lutheran Church to IOCO on Asbury and back. This is a 5K walk to raise money for women who do not have insurance to pay for mammograms. All money raised will be given to the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to distribute in the tri-state area as needed. Click here for a registration form.

Noting that nearly nine percent of women in Iowa are uninsured, Breast of Friends is dedicating their efforts to give back to the community by helping women who do not have insurance to get mammograms. Forms for participation and sponsorship for the Did I save your Life? Breast Cancer Prevention Walk forms are available at ExSalonte Salon and on the events page of the Finley Hospital website, <>
