NEWS RELEASE ON HEALTH CARE FORUM
Cedar Rapids, IA -- On September 30th, Health Care for America Now will hold a listening post for Cedar Rapids area legislators and congressional representatives to hear people's struggles with the health insurance market.
Iowa's Health Care for America Now campaign has been holding events across Iowa giving the opportunity for consumers to voice their concerns to elected officials about the struggles they have been facing in the health insurance market. This is the fourth of such events, with more scheduled in Sioux City, and forums have already taken place in Ames, Davenport, and Des Moines
The forum is part of the Health Care for America Now (HCAN) Campaign, which is holding similar events in 45 states in the next few months to highlight the need for quality, affordable health care for everyone in America. Health Care for America Now is an unprecedented coalition of major organizations including labor unions, large grassroots-based membership groups, women's groups, doctors, nurses, small businesses, and leading netroots activists.
Iowa health care advocates, policy makers and health care consumers have been challenging decision makers to take a position on HCAN's "Which Side Are You On?" statement which offers the two options for health care reform in 2009: reform which includes a guarantee of quality, affordable health care for everyone along with a choice of public or private insurance plans; or reform that turns over more power to health insurance companies and trusts the insurance market to fix the broken health care system.
