Two fatal traffic accidents in Crawford County, WI


CRAWFORD COUNTY, WISCONSIN (KWWL) -- Two people are dead following fatal traffic crashes two days in a row in Crawford County, Wisconsin.

The first accident happened Friday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. seven miles north of Prairie du Chien.  The Crawford County Sheriff's Department says 32-year old Gabriel Ziegler of McGregor, Iowa was driving drunk and rolled his vehicle several times.

37-year old passenger Jay Gokey of Priarie du Chien, Wisconsin was killed in that crash.

Reports show Ziegler, who was not injured, is charged with homicide by operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A second crash in Crawford County happened Saturday morning shortly before 7:30 a.m. about two miles south of Soldiers Grove.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Department says 44-year old Derrick George of Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin apparantly fell asleep while driving.  They say George then swerved off the road and was killed after crashing into a ditch.

Authorities say George was not wearing a seatbelt.
