West Branch Beats #7 Belle Plaine 35-19

Posted:

WEST BRANCH (KWWL) -- West Branch captain Jordan Thompson was not going to let his Bears fall on homecoming.

The senior tailback scored on a 30 yard touchdown run on the Bears' first series of the third quarter, and gave West Branch some breathing room as they went on to win 35-19 over seventh ranked Belle Plaine.

Thompson gave the Bears a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the first quarter when he spun away from a would-be tackler, and barreled over another en route to a 12 yard touchdown run.

Belle Plaine drew within a point in the second quarter after Tate DeMeulenaero hit Chris Janss on a slant for a 33 yard score.  But on the ensuing kickoff, Cole Kelly turned in a spectacular 92 yard touchdown return, propelling the Bears to a 14-6 lead.

West Branch outscored Belle Plaine 21-7 in the second half.  Both teams now have one loss in One-A District Five play.
