The Wolverines Stay Unbeaten in District Play


After dropping its first two games of the season, Dike New Hartford has opened district play with two straight wins moving into a tie for first in 2-a district three. While Gilbert lost its first game of the season on a last second touchdown at Hudson.

It was homecoming for the Wolverines. Congratulations goes out to King, Cory Grandon and Queen, Ashley Beninga. 

The Gilbert Tigers moved the ball firs when quarter back Aaron Sporrer would thrown the ball deep down the middle of the field for an incomplete pass but an interference call moved the ball to the 10 of the wolverines. 

Four plays later the Tigers appeared to be going for a field goal; instead, it was a fake and number 12 quarterback Aaron Sporrer would run it in from the four for a touchdown.

The extra point made it 7 - zip which stretched into the second quarter when Wolverines Quarterback Matt Dove pump fakes and would hit number 40 David Weber for a 45-yard bomb to pay dirt. 

The extra point was no good and it was 7 to 6 Tigers.

Late in the second quarter, Wolverines Matt Dove would find his favorite receiver again.

He would hit David Weber with a screen pass for 20-yards. Plus, tack on a fask mask would eventually lead to the go ahead score by quarterback Matt Dove. 

It was 12 to 7 when Wolverines head coach David Betts would go for 2. 

It was Dove rolling out and connecting to who else, flying back into the play number 40 David Weber for the conversion making it 14 to 7 with only seconds left in the first half. 

The Wolverines would go on to win the game 20 to 14 staying undefeated in district play.
