Game of the Week: Crestwood holds on to top New Hampton 16-14

Posted:

NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) -- One team would come out with a real opportunity to make a run at a district title, the other will have to fight to stay in the playoff hunt, and on Friday night it would be the Crestwood Cadets who would come out with the upper hand.

The Cadets held on 16 - 14 behind 97 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns from quarterback Mark Lueschow.

Lueschow gave Crestwood the early 7 - 0 lead on a sweep play, but New Hampton countered with a could scores of their own.  Brock Boeding knocked down a pair of defenders en route to a 55 yard touchdown run, while quarterback Scott Hruska hit tight end Jordan Moore on a touchdown strike to give the Chickasaws a 14 - 10 halftime lead.

Lueschow's 3rd quarter 2 yard touchdown run, however, would give Crestwood the lead for good at 16 - 14.  The Cadets stalled several New Hampton drives, while Ben Obermann's 4th quarter interception of a Hruska pass sealed the deal.

With the win Crestwood moves to 3 - 0 in district play and 3 - 2 over all, while New Hampton falls to 1 - 2, and 2 - 3 respectively.
