N. U. High beats AGWSR, 27-20

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The N.U. High Panthers can celebrate Homecoming in style, following a hard-fought, 27-20 victory over A-G-W-S-R.

The Panthers took a 7-0 first quarter lead, when Homecoming King, Quarterback Tom Creeden, found Ta'mone Williams down the middle on a 28-yard touchdown pass. The Panthers went up, 10-0, on Jordan Lankford's 22-yard field goal in the second quarter.

A-G-W-S-R lost three-year starting quarterback, Jory McDowell, to a second quarter left leg injury. McDowell said he was injured in an A-T-V accident just before the season, and likely aggravated that injury. That forced Cougar Coach, Matt Lindeman, to go with sophomore Quarterback, Evan Johnson. Johnson lead the Cougars on successful a second quarter drive, which resulted in a short touchdown run by Trent Heetland. The Cougars went for two, and Johnson made a great second effort for the two-point conversion. That cut the N.U. High lead to 10-8.

With one-second left in the half, the Cougars blocked Jordan Lankford's field goal attempt. Michael Rabbitt picked up the live ball, and raced 89-yards for an A-G-W-S-R touchdown with no time left in the half. Cougars led, 14-10.

N.U. High came out fired up in the second half and scored on the opening drive, when Creeden found Brad Denning in the end zone on a 9-yard touchdown pass. The Panthers went ahead 17-14, and went on to beat A-G-W-S-R, 27-20.
