Sumner-Fredericksburg Hands North Fayette First District Loss

WEST UNION (KWWL) -- A week after suffering their first loss of the district season, Sumner-Fredericksburg hit the road to face district unbeaten North Fayette on Friday night.

In a very physical contest, the Cougars would score first, piecing together a thirteen play drive that quarterback Keegan Fritsch capped off with a seven yard touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter.

North Fayette responded by driving deep into S-F territory, but turned the ball over on a fumble on a fourth down attempt.

The Cougars were forced to punt on the ensuing possession, and the Hawks again used their potent ground game to get on the board.  Tanner Mork's thirty-seven yard run inside the ten set up Tom Nestvick's touchdown run with just under three minutes to play in the first half.  But the Hawks would fail to hit paydirt on a two-point conversion attempt.

Sumner-Fredericksburg would hold on to win 22-21 to give the Hawks their first district loss.  The two squads are now tied for second in Class 2A's District 4 with 2-1 records.
