DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Sustainability and going green is a growing trend especially on college campuses. Loras College are pledging to go green, one finger print at a time.

Hundreds of fingerprints mark a poster near the cafeteria at Loras College.

"Just trying to make people aware that it is the environment out ther and it isn't all about you," said Loras Student Anya Bernstein.

Each make a pledge to do something small that could have a huge impact on the environment.

Using the campaign "Keep Campus Clean And Green" the college is making its own carbon finger print.

"We are composting so your food scraps are going in a different pile than you're paper scraps," said Lisa Bunders of the Sustainability Task Force.

Separating recyclables, paper, food scraps and trash into four separate bins.

"Eventually we're going to be able to not throw away as much," said Bernstein. "Right now reduce the amount of waste we have."

On a campus where the colors purple and gold reign, green is the new purple and everyone is doing his or her part to make a positive impact on the environment.
