Dubuque County Fair thinking Down to Earth

Dubuque (KWWL) - The Dubuque County Fair is one of many county fairs underway now across eastern Iowa. Those fairs bring a lot of fun and entertainment but can come at a cost, and not just the ticket to get in. That has some fairs looking for ways to reduce its cost to the environment.

This year at the Dubuque County Fair, the 4H food tent is selling a lot more than just food and drinks, in fact they're selling something they hope will help save the environment.

"They're a nice color of red," said Dee Gaul, the 4H Dubuque Youth Coordinator.

Members of the dubuque area 4H are going green, by sellling red.

"We're selling bags that are reusable so you can take to the grocery store," said Gaul. "Big thing that is going on so you don't use paper and plastic."

For just $5 you can take home one of the stylish red bags.

"It's reusable, it's environment friendly, it looks good," said Gaul. "It's much better to go ahead and buy your $5 bag and save the landfill some space."

Not only do those reuseable bags help save the environment but also your pocket. Many stores offer a 5-cent bag deposit refund if you use a reusable grocery bag.
