KWWL and KWWL.com serve customers in nearly two dozen eastern Iowa counties. The station operates newsrooms and sales offices Waterloo, Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
KWWL Incorporated is part of the family-owned company, Quincy Newspapers Incorporated. The NBC affiliate broadcasts KWWL-DT (7.1), KWWL This TV (7.2) and KWWL Eastern Iowa's RTV (7.3).
The station signed on the air on Thanksgiving Day, 1953. Local businessman R.J. McElroy and the Black Hawk Broadcasting Company won the license to broadcast following a lawsuit against a competing group. KWWL stands for "Keep Watching Waterloo."
