Eileen Loan grew up in eastern Iowa and has lived in the Midwest her entire life, so Eileen knows how quickly our weather can change.
Eileen, her sister and brother were all born at the same hospital that their dad was: Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. They graduated eighth grade from the same school building he graduated eighth grade. (They went to Clear Creek, while he graduated from Cosgrove School). Eileen's mom is a retired (for the most part) dietitian, and her sister, Mary, is a Forest Ranger in California. Eileen's brother, Bill, works for the Iowa Interstate Railroad and has retired after spending 20 years in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves. He has served in Kuwait and Cuba. She is very proud of all of them.
Eileen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Iowa State University and started her broadcast career at WMT AM and FM in Cedar Rapids.
She met her husband, Dwayne, there and they were married in 1997. Eileen went on to work for KELO-Land television in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. KELO covered the entire state of South Dakota and several counties in Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. Severe weather was an all day event at that station. Especially for slow moving storms! That position gave her plenty of experience for KWWL when Eileen moved back to Iowa in 2000.
Eileen has been back at KWWL since October 2006 and has covered all the weather that Iowan's can see, including the 2008 Parkersburg tornado (that also affected New Hartford) and the 2008 Floods that affected everyone. She is currently the Morning Meteorologist and, while she enjoys the work, does not enjoy the alarm going off at 11:30 at night!
