UPDATE: Waukon pilot escapes Clayton County plane crash uninjured

UPDATE: Clayton County Sheriff Michael Tschirgi says Waukon pilot William Behrend was able to put his small plane down into a cornfield Wednesday night, and escaped the ordeal uninjured.

The Sheriff says Behrend's plane lost power shortly after taking off, and the pilot landed the plane near the 13000 block of Greenfield Avenue, just south of the Monona Municipal Airport.

The Monona Fire Department, Monona Ambulance, Monona Police, Farmersburg First Responders and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene alongside the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies in Clayton County say they responded to a report of a plane crash near the Monona Airport on Wednesday night.

No one was hurt in the crash, which happened in a field off of Greenfield Avenue, according to deputies. They say the call reporting the crash came in around 8:07 p.m.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office says more information about the crash will be made available on Thursday afternoon.
