Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: A 19-year-old woman was rescued from a crash off of the side of an eastern Iowa bridge.

Cedar Rapids police say Jonisa Williams was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Cruze when it went over a bridge along Edgewood Road around 7:54 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers say Williams apparently lost control, and had to be pulled up to safety with the use of a basket and a high rope rescue by firefighters from atop the bridge. They say she's in the hospital with serious injuries following the crash.

Two passengers were also inside the car, according to police. 19-year-old Jeremiah Taylor had minor injuries, while 22-year-old Setra Sumerall was not hurt in the crash.

Cedar Rapids officers say they are still investigating the crash.

Original Story:

Police in Cedar Rapids say two people were taken to the hospital after a car was apparently driven off of a bridge on Wednesday.

Officers say they were dispatched to the 90 block of Edgewood Road in Cedar Rapids just before 8 p.m. after a call alerted them to a car off of the bridge in the area. Once at the scene, the officers found the car over the bridge, along with a man and woman who were inside at the time of the crash. Both were taken to the hospital, according to police, but are expected to survive. Investigators say only one car was involved in the crash.
