WASHINGTON (KWWL) -

Ed Jones was a staple in the Washington community according to posts flooding social media.

In fact, the Washington High School flag was lowered to half staff in his memory.

"Ed Jones was truly an amazing man. He went to all the Washington home sport games and if he could get a ride to away games he would go. Ed was the town spirit he would talk to anyone and everyone," says Erin Mills.

Jones was stabbed to death in his apartment Wednesday morning and police believe his roommate is to blame.

They have arrested and charged Clarence Dean Pedersen with First Degree Murder.

Investigators say they found blood on the sleeves of Pedersen's shirt and a note in his room that said "Kill Ed."

A second note in Pedersen's room allegedly indicated he planned to commit suicide.

He made his initial appearance in court this morning but it turns out courtrooms are not unfamiliar to Pedersen.

According to online court documents he was convicted of murder in western Iowa back in the 80's, that conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court because of a mental diagnosis.
