UPDATE: Arrest made in Washington suspicious death investigation

WASHINGTON (KWWL) -

UPDATE: Authorities say a man has been arrested in a death investigation.

Clarence Pedersen is facing murder charges in connection with a suspicious death in an apartment complex in Washington.

70-year-old Ed Jones was found in the apartment with an apparent stab wound to the upper torso. 

Authorities also located a large fixed blade lying on Jones’ lap with apparent blood on the knife. 

Pedersen, Jones’ roommate, was interviewed as part of the investigation. Police say Pedersen confirmed owning a knife similar in appearance to the knife found in the crime scene.  Authorities say they also located a handwritten note among Pedersen’s belongings, which stated, “Kill Ed."

Pedersen is currently being held in the Washington County Jail and is scheduled for an initial appearance later today.

UPDATE: The Washington Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation say the man at the center of a suspicious death investigation is Ed E. Jones. The 70-year-old from Washington was found dead at an apartment in the 600 block of West Adams Street on Wednesday morning.

An autopsy will be performed in the investigation.
