Coltin Carolus suffered a serious head injury from a fireworks accident Friday night, yesterday he was taken off life support.

Now, Coltin's family is trying to remember Coltin for the young man he was.

"He was the life of the party, but he would make sure everyone got home okay. He would come from an hour and a half to 10 minutes to drive the truck, I mean he would get them home either way," said Coltin's sister, Courtney Carolus. "I keep waiting for him to pull in my driveway. I came out here last night and sat down in front of his truck and bike and listened to his favorite songs."

Several members of the community also trying to honor Coltin's memory.

"They knew Coltin, well enough that they wanted to make a tribute to them, just to let his family know that they were thinking about him, and they were very sorry for what happened to him," said Heather Hurd at the Dirty Dog restaurant in Waverly, a place Coltin frequented with friends.

Coltin's father wants people to know how compassionate his son was even in death. After getting the news that Coltin wouldn't recover, the family followed their son's last wishes, allowing doctors to retrieve his organs. Coltin's father was in the operating room until the last heartbeat.

"I absolutely have no regret or question that I would do it again, and I would still be holding his hand right now if I could," said Troy Carolus.

Coltin was a 2018 graduate of Waverly-Shell Rock high school, he planned to attend college in the fall.
