July 9 to August 6: Personal Care Drive; where you can donate

Posted: Updated:

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank's annual Personal Care Drive began today, July 9.  Until August 6, local businesses, churches, and organizations will be collecting personal care items to be distributed to over 200 non-profit agencies in 16 northeast Iowa counties.

Items they are looking for include soap, shampoo, diapers, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other personal care items.

“For the next few months, school is out, it will be getting much hotter, and people will be getting busier. With families incurring more costs that are associated with an increase in summertime activity, we find many of our clients experiencing the need for hygiene products. For many of us, these products might be something we take for granted. For others, that is not the case,” said Barbara Prather, Executive Director of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.

These are the locations where you can drop of items until August 6:

  • Westminster Presbyterian
  • St. Paul’s UMC
  • First United Methodist Church- Cedar Falls
  • Zion Lutheran Church – Waterloo
  • Our Savior’s Lutheran Church
  • Vanderloo Chiropractic
  • Principal Financial
  • Scientific Games Interactive
  • Community Bank & Trust
  • Trinity American Lutheran – Waterloo
  • Camping World
  • Terex Global Business Services
  • Faith Evangelical Lutheran
  • HyVee – Cedar Falls
  • HyVee – Waterloo (Flammang Dr.)

On August 4, as the annual drive comes to a close, volunteers will take to local stores, handing out flyers that include a list of items needed.  The hope is that shoppers will pick up a few listed items while they're shopping for their own items.  On-site volunteers will collect any donations from 9 a.m. until noon at Walmart stores in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Independence, as well as Fareway stores in Waterloo, Evansdale and Cedar Falls.

"We sincerely appreciate the work of our donors, volunteers, and partner agencies in helping over 46,440 northeast Iowans in need,” said Prather.
