Iowa City Police investigating overnight assault and robbery

Iowa City Police are investigating an overnight assault and robbery.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Iowa Avenue for a medical emergency just before 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

The victim said a man with short hair approached him in the alley in the 10-block of S. Dubuque Street and asked him if he wanted to buy drugs.  He says when he declined, the suspect punched him, knocking the him to the ground, and then assaulted him again while down. 

Police say the suspect also stole some of the victim’s personal property.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
