INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -

Independence erased an early deficit and rallied past Dubuque Wahlert 4-2 on Saturday night. The fifth ranked Mustangs now sit one win away from a spot in the state softball tournament in Fort Dodge.

Wahlert jumped out to the early edge as Ellie Timmerman scored on Kathryn Nedder's infield single in the second inning. The Golden Eagles plated another run on a wild pitch.

Independence got one back in the bottom half on a bases loaded hit by pitch. In the third inning, Allison Zeiser scored from first base after an Allison Doyle fly ball was mishandled in right field with two outs in the inning. The Mustangs did more damage two batters later when Madleyn Beatty stroked a two run double in to the left centerfield gap.

The Mustangs host Marion on Tuesday night in a class 4A regional final.
