CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Troy Wilson appeared in court this morning after being arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree yesterday.

Wilson is accused of hitting 38-year-old Scott Dexter in the head at Greene Square Park earlier this month, leaving him unconscious.

The attack happened on June 5th and police have been looking for a suspect ever since.

Dexter was taken to an area hospital but died shortly after being taken off life support after he was declared brain dead by doctors according to court documents.

The criminal complaint says Wilson denied the allegations at first but later admitted to police he hit Dexter in the side of the head after hearing him argue with someone else in the park.

Cedar Rapids Police are hoping to add cameras to the park in order to make it safer, a family member of Dexter's tells us he is pushing for the cameras as well.

According to a Go Fund Me page made for Dexter he was an organ donor and has been able to help save four lives.

Wilson's bond was set at $1 Million cash only this morning.

The state called the attack "heartless" and "unprovoked."

Murder in the Second Degree is a Class B Felony.

If convicted Wilson faces up to 50 years in prison.
