Cedar Valley community helps boy start lawn mowing business, overcome hurdles

Posted: Updated:

This is a story that focuses on what Iowa nice is all about. An eastern Iowa teen started his own lawn mowing business, but he ran into some hurdles.

That's when the Cedar Valley community pitched in to help him out.

13-year old Braden Fredericksen says the most important tool he needed for his business, his lawn mower, stopped working one day.

"It just kind of blew up, while I was mowing a lawn," he said.

So Braden's mom posted to Facebook, asking if anyone knew where Braden might be able to buy a new lawn mower without having to pay too much.

"Tons of people started responding. So many people started making offers, offers for cheap mowers, offers for free mowers, offers for amazing mowers for good deals," Fredericksen said.

In the end, Fredericksen ended up getting a lawn mower for free from CZ Property Services, not knowing just how important this was for the teen's family.

"With my mom's disability, we can't really afford to buy just anything whenever we want. If I want a game or a book or anything of the sort, I have to mow a lawn, and then I can get it. Or if I can help my mom in anyway I can money-wise, that's big for my family," Fredericksen said.

The teen business-man saying, "This just shows that there are people in the world that are willing to help out, even if it gives them no benefit. It was just so amazing to see so many people reach out to a stranger."
