Cedar Rapids to host Quidditch Midwest Regional Tournament

Broomsticks will be flocking to November as muggles compete in games of Quidditch.

GO Cedar Rapids announced on Thursday that Cedar Rapids will be the site of this years Quidditch Midwest Regional Tournament. The competition will take place at the Tuma Soccer Complex on November 3-4, 2018.

Teams from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin make up the Midwest Region. GO Cedar Rapids says teams and spectators are expected to spend more than $121,500 while in the city.

“Hosting this regional tournament is a great win for Cedar Rapids,” said Aaron McCreight, GO Cedar Rapids President & CEO. “This is an example of how our outstanding community facilities are attracting unique events and bringing more visitors to the area.”

Quiddith is a fictional sport played in the Harry Potter series. In 2005, muggles at Middlebury College in Vermont turned it into a sport. It has aspects of rugby, basketball and dodge ball, all while players must have a broom between their legs at all times.
