WATERLOO (KWWL) -

According to Waterloo police, two kids were hit by a car while crossing a road yesterday afternoon.

The police report says the two kids were crossing the 500 block of Dawson Street around 4:13 p.m. They were both two years old.

Witnesses say a man was walking with the two children, when they ran out ahead of him in the street.

The driver, 35-year-old Laquita Fleming-Goldsmith, was heading eastbound on Dawson Street, and the report says she stopped to check on the kids after they were hit.

According to the report, she says the kids came out of nowhere, and she tried to stop as soon as she could. The report adds that the children's caretaker said the two kids were playing in the backyard. They then got out of the gate and ran to the road.

The report says Fleming-Goldsmith was cited for not having a valid driver's license or proof of insurance in her car.

The kids are in stable condition, with non-life threatening injuries.
