ANAMOSA (KWWL) -

Inspired by Grant Wood's American Gothic, the towering farming couple sculpture, by renowned American artist Seward Johnson, was installed off of Main Street in downtown Anamosa Tuesday.

Beginning Tuesday morning around 9:00 a.m., the two figures were air-lifted by crane to stand next to each other. The sculpture will take several days to complete, finishing on Wednesday.

The sculpture by Seward Johnson was inspired by Grant Wood's American Gothic. Johnson transformed the figures into a three-dimensional scene that towers over people and treetops. The sculpture is part of a series by Johnson.

The sculpture has previously been on exhibit on Michigan Avenue in Chicago as well as in Mesa, Arizona, Key West, Florida, and most recently Elkhart, Indiana.
