IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The north end zone project sits on schedule and will be set to go for the 2018 season.

The project which replaces the old seats with a new double deck structure, including 1,900 premium club seats is set to be in place by August 4. That's well in advance of Iowa's season opener against Northern Illinois.

Per the initial plan, only the seating will be completed for the 2018 season. The other remaining amenities will be ready when the Hawkeyes take the field in 2019.

"None of the concession stands will be open, but we will have portable concession stands on all levels," says Iowa Senior Construction Manager Michael Kearns, "None of the bathrooms will be finished, so we'll have portable restrooms and they'll all be down on the lower level."

The new structure is expected to trap more sound inside Kinnick Stadium, creating a more hostile environment for Iowa's opponents.
