North Grandview Ave. road project to get underway

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The city of Dubuque is alerting motorists that it'll begin scheduled work on the North Grandview Avenue/University Avenue roundabout June 7. City council and the state transportation department approved work to convert the intersection into a single-lane roundabout.  Off-street work begins Thursday, with road closures and detours schedule for a week later, June 14.

That's when eastbound and westbound University Avenue traffic will be detoured along Delhi Street, but North Grandview will be kept open to northbound and southbound traffic during the construction project.  Most of the work is expected to be finished by the time school resumes in August.

The project includes relocating the Jule's Midtown Transfer at University and Grandview. The new transfer location at Allison-Henderson Park is expected to include a paved bus pull-over area off the main roadway, a bus shelter and other changes.  No bus stops are due to be closed during the first phase of the roundabout construction.

The city says the second phase of construction will mean the Jule will operate from its new transfer location at Allison-Henderson Park.  The overall project cost is $1.26 million with funding in part from the Department of Transportation as well as federal monies.
