New research expected to save thousands from chemotherapy

A recent study shows many women with early stage cancer may be able to pass on chemotherapy.

The genetic test is called "Oncotype DX" and it's been guiding doctors on when to treat a patient with chemotherapy.

A low test score means patients can skip the treatment and all its toxic side effects.

A high score means women would benefit greatly from it.

For years, doctors were unsure how to treat women in the "middle range".

New research on more than 10,000 patients finds that those mid-range women can safely forego chemotherapy - without affecting survival.

Experts say treatment practices will change immediately.
