Firefighters respond to vacant house fire

Posted: Updated:

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to the vacant house fire around 3:30 this morning.

The fire happened in the 2500 block of First Avenue Southeast.

When the crew arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the roof and light smoke on the first floor.

No one was living in the home at the time.

Firefighters say they found the fire in the floor of the second level of the home.

A vent hole was cut to relieve heavy heat.

The fire was put out about 15 minutes after crews got to the home.

Neighbors say smoke alarms alerted them of the fire. They called 911.

The fire is under investigation.
