Troopers reward Denver students for wearing their seat belts

DENVER (KWWL) -

Imagine getting pulled over by a trooper and being rewarded with Casey's pizza!

Several troopers with the Iowa State Patrol "caught" Denver students this morning, as part of the "I Got Caught" Campaign.

Troopers stood at the two entrances to the Denver High School parking lot, handing out coupons for a free piece of pizza and fountain drink redeemable at Casey's.  They gave the coupons to students who were wearing their seat belts.

AAA's  "I Got Caught" program is in partnership with both Casey's General Store and the Iowa State Patrol.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper David (Dave) Goreham says, "On our side, we probably handed out about 120 coupons today. The seat belt is the safest choice any driver or any passenger could make in a vehicle. Good habits start young. So it's just reinforcing and keeping up the habit of wearing your seat belt every time you get in a car."

He adds, "We had a girl, probably the second car, she looked like she was going to cry. But when we explained to her what we were doing, she was happy and thankful."
