Driver narrowly escapes Iowa sinkhole

Posted: Updated:

No one was hurt, after a huge sinkhole opened up in an Iowa neighborhood.

The sinkhole is right outside a man's front window in Des Moines.

City crews say a water pipe is to blame, and it's unlikely the hole will extend farther.

Neighbors say police were alerted of the sinkhole from a driver who narrowly escaped falling inside.

The driver says, "I came outside and there was a giant hole there. It was like 35 feet deep. It was kind of shocking."

Neighbors are glad no one was hurt, and they say they hope the city can work to prevent other potential sinkholes in the area.
