Transient accused of crime spree in downtown Iowa City

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

22-year-old Austin Robichaud is accused of committing a series of crimes early Friday morning in downtown Iowa City. 

According to criminal complaints he started a moped on fire in the 400 block of Madison Street because he wanted to see if it would blow up. 

Complaints go on to say Robichaud was caught on surveillance camera throwing a bench outside of the Johnson County Courthouse, breaking three boards off the bench. 

He is also accused of setting a fire inside the courthouse dumpster.  

In addition, police say he broke into a jeep at the intersection of Harrison and Clinton Street, stealing some items from inside. 

Robichaud is charged with Arson 2nd Degree, Arson 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 5th Degree and Burglary 3rd Degree.
