UPDATE: Picture of what potential Maddie Poppe park will look like

Posted: Updated:

Here is a picture of what the park is expected to look like.

The park is expected to have a recharging solar station for cell phones, Wi-Fi service, and a picnic shelter. It should also have tools for bike repairs.

Right now, the town says this park is pending property acquisition through the FEMA buyout program.

The hope is that the town will also be able to use grant money to help pay for the park.

They applied for a Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) grant  last year, but they were turned down.

The town says they have "high hopes" for the grant this upcoming year.

We want to stress this is in the early planning stages.

Clarksville is making a change to celebrate Maddie Poppe!

This week, she became the first Iowan to win 'American Idol.'

The town's mayor, Val Swinton, says they wanted to celebrate their "hometown hero."  They have plans for a potential park that would be called, 'Maddie Poppe Trailhead Park.'

It's going to have a picnic shelter, and it will lead into a bike trail.

The plan is for the park to go where the old 'Baking Memories' was.

This was the location of a popular ice cream shop in town. Sadly, it was destroyed by the 2016 floods. The town hopes to tear down the building and build the park.

Swinton said the area where this will be built is part of a 2016 FEMA buyout. This means the town will be paid to tear the old building down.

The timeline for when this will start and when this will be complete is still being figured out.

This park will be near Rolling Prairie Trail, not far from Highway 188.

The address for the old 'Baking Memories' is 404 S Main St, Clarksville, IA 50619.
