Iowa City Uber driver charged after allegedly sexually abusing passenger

An Uber driver is facing 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse charges after allegedly assaulting a women who was getting a ride home from downtown Iowa City in October of 2017. 

Documents say the victim sat in the front passenger seat of 37-year-old Ali Alsheik's car, expecting to be driven from downtown Iowa City to her home. 

According to Uber records and GPS information, Alsheik took an indirect route to the victim's home, making at stop along the way. The victim was inside Alsheik's car for almost 30 minutes during which time Alsheik allegedly sexually assaulted her against her will. 

Documents say within hours the victim was examined at a hospital where a sexual assault kit was completed. When investigators questioned Alsheik, he denied having any type of sexual contact with the victim and blamed the victim for attempting to initiate sexual contact with him. Alsheik told investigators that he refused the victim's sexual advances and only drover her home. 

DNA gathered from both Alsheik and the DNA test from the victim's sexual assault kit, matched the DNA gathered from the front passenger seat of Alsheik's car.
