BELLE PLAINE (KWWL) -

Community leaders in Belle Plaine will host a town hall forum next week, after two recent investigations were ruled murder-suicides by authorities the Benton County city.

The most recent case involved a 36-year-old mother pulling her 8-year-old son onto train tracks and into the path of an oncoming train earlier this month. Iowa DCI agents ruled that situation a murder-suicide earlier on Tuesday.

The suicide prevention and awareness town hall forum will happen on Thursday, May 31 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in the 1400 block of 8th Avenue in Belle Plaine. The forum will begin with presentations from Operation Save and NAMI of Johnson County, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from Benton County Public Health, Benton County Above the Influence, ISU Extension, Foundation 2 and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The forum is free and open to the public.
